We all know the benefits of natural ingredients for our skin such as coconut oil, olive oil, or soduim bicarbonate to name a few. So the fact that honey is one of them is no surprise. You probably already know that this sweet substance is excellent for fighting colds and other colds, and for moisturizing hair. But, several other benefits of honey have recently been discovered when applied to the face, and you’re sure to love them.
Why is honey so good for our skin?
First and foremost: Honey is naturally made by bees that collect nectar from flowers and store it in hives. They then create the viscous sweet liquid we know and love. This liquid contains nearly 300 ingredients, the most well-known of which are vitamin B, calcium, zinc, potassium and iron. Honey is rich in antioxidants, antibacterial and has an enzymatic activity that helps to make your skin glow (all skin types; oily, dry, irritated, etc.), but also to give it back its natural glow.
Which honey works best?
Like wine or oil, there are different varieties with equally different properties. The darker the honey is, the richer it is in antioxidants, so it is advisable to choose it as natural and as little processed as possible. And not pasteurized!
Benefit #1: It’s the perfect daily cleaner!
The antioxidant, antiseptic and antibacterial properties of honey make this ingredient a must for fighting blemishes. It will open your pores and get rid of those annoying blackheads while keeping your skin hydrated all day long. Simply wet your face with warm water, take about a teaspoon of honey and apply it directly to your face. Then massage with circular motions. Add your usual cleanser, and continue massaging for 30 seconds before rinsing off. Continue with your usual skincare routine.
Benefit #2: it’s a natural exfoliant
Say goodbye to irritated and itchy skin by using a honey mask to gently exfoliate. You can also combine it with other ingredients (avocado, lemon or cider vinegar) to improve your routine. Test it yourself: start by cleansing your face, spread a thin layer of honey alone or with the ingredient of your choice on your skin. Leave on for 8 to 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water and pat your face dry. Use once or twice a week for best results.
Benefit #3: It is excellent for treating acne.
If honey is good for cleansing and exfoliation, it is also good for fighting acne. Its anti-inflammatory benefits help remove excess oil from the skin’s surface. And if applied daily, it balances bacteria on the skin. Honey can also be used as a localized treatment to calm severe rashes, and even to relieve skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. The healing properties of honey help the skin repair skin damage more quickly.
Benefit #4: It is a very good moisturizer.
If your skin tends to be dry or irritated, applying honey can have a soothing effect. Honey fights free radical damage and pollution, thanks to its antioxidant properties. It is truly excellent for providing moisture to the skin, which will smooth and soften your complexion.
Benefit n°5 : it’s an excellent anti-ageing product.
Honey contains in its composition probiotics, antioxidants, nutrients and enzymes that act synergistically to nourish and plump the skin. It will therefore retain and rebuild skin hydration without greasing it or causing irritation, often observed when skin pores are clogged. Even if it does not completely eliminate wrinkles, it reduces their appearance. In addition, antioxidants help repair the damage caused by time, which are visible signs of aging.
What to keep in mind:
The more you incorporate honey into your beauty routine, the more likely you are to see results. As I used to say, the most important thing in a beauty routine is “regularity.
It is also important to know that if you are allergic to pollen, it is best to avoid honey. Do not hesitate to do a 24-hour test on a restricted area or ask your doctor for advice.
Finally, be sure to wash your face thoroughly after using honey and to remove all residues before using your skin care, mask or treatment. Honey residues can be a nest of dirt that can lead to rashes. And the last thing you want is clogged pores or acne.
Let’s go find some natural honey and start pampering our skin!
